Taguchi Robust Design for Product Improvement
Taguchi robust design is used to find the appropriate control factor levels in a design or a process to make the system
less sensitive to variations in uncontrollable noise factors (i.e., to make the system robust). Ideally, a product's performance should be consistent no matter what
the noise values are. In this article, we will use ReliaSoft's
DOE++, a software product for Design of Experiments, to illustrate how to use a Taguchi Robust Design to make a
robust product. To read more, see

Reliability Basics |
FRACAS: An Essential Ingredient for Reliability Success
Reliability engineering not only involves the use of statistical tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, degradation analysis, accelerated
life testing, system simulation, etc.) but also involves the use of efficient management methods. In this article, we will briefly
discuss the history and the role of failure reporting, analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS) in a reliability program,
and introduce ReliaSoft's XFRACAS. This web-based FRACAS
tool provides an organization wide platform that connects together all reliability-related management and
analysis activities.To read more, see

Tool Tips |
- How can I customize and annotate plots from ReliaSoft applications?
- How can I use the Comparison Wizard and the Stress-Strength Wizard tools in Weibull++
and ALTA?

ARS Europe Awards Issued - We formally congratulate the recipients of the Excellent Presentation Awards, who were selected based on
votes cast by attendees in Amsterdam at the European Applied Reliability Symposium (ARS) last month. During this
event, we had many engineers from various industries present on practical topics. These are the winners!
1st Place (Gold) - Gernot J. Riedel from ABB Switzerland for his presentation on
"Reliability of Voltage-Source Converters: Reliability Standards, Aging Components and Load-Sharing Redundancy."
2nd Place (Silver) - John van Schendel from Relia-Easy for his presentation on
"Reliability: Is It a Blessing or a Curse?"
3rd Place (Bronze) - Tayfun Kocabas from S.P.A.C. Consulting for his presentation on
"Increasing Mandrel Life in Cold Ring Rolling Process: An Application of DOE Principles to Reliability Analysis."
Thank you for your hard work and congratulations for garnering the winning votes!

Call for Presenters for ARS India - The ARS committee is currently soliciting
presenters for the 2011 ARS, India, which will be held in Bangalore, India on October 12 - 14, 2011. If you are
interested in learning more about this opportunity, please review the detailed instructions and
requirements posted at http://www.ARSymposium.org/india/presenters/index.htm. |

Recognition of CRP Recipients - The Certified Reliability Professional (CRP) program's certification
process requires much effort and dedication. It is not something that can be achieved within only a few months because
formal training and a practical project must be completed, and then published. The following reliability professionals
have recently earned their CRP certification, and we are honored to have recognized them at last
month's ARS, Europe for their outstanding achievement.
