Degradation Analysis in
Destructive Testing
Degradation analysis is an important data analysis technique for
projecting failure data from the degradation history of a
quality or performance characteristic that is associated with
the reliability of a product. This approach typically requires
that the degradation be measured for multiple units over time.
However, in some cases, destructive testing is necessary to
obtain degradation measurements and taking multiple measurements
over the life of the same unit is therefore not feasible. This
article describes an approach, using
Weibull++ 7 and
ALTA 7, to handle such a data
analysis problem and predict a failure distribution model.

Introduction to Design of Experiments (DOE) -
DOE Types
This article continues the discussion of Design of Experiments
(DOE) that started in
last month's issue of the
Reliability HotWire. This article gives a summary of the various
types of DOE. Future articles will cover more DOE fundamentals
in addition to applications and discussion of DOE analyses
accomplished with the soon-to-be-introduced
DOE++ software!

Tool Tips |
- Can I copy/paste more than
one item in the System Hierarchy or FMEA Hierarchy in Xfmea

New Symposium Format -
ARS, North America 2008 promises to be better
than ever this year! Due to popular demand, the
schedule has been expanded to allow more
presentations on reliability topics, more
opportunities for building relationships with
colleagues and one additional day for staying informed
on the latest
academic research. For more information, please
visit
http://www.ARSymposium.org/northamerica/index.htm.

DOE Software from ReliaSoft! - The wait is
nearly over now that ReliaSoft's new DOE++ is
almost complete. This powerful new software facilitates
traditional Design of Experiments (DOE)
techniques for studying the factors that may affect a
product or process in order to identify significant
factors and optimize designs. In addition, DOE++
supports "Reliability DOE." This represents a
major breakthrough for reliability-related analyses
because only ReliaSoft's DOE++ provides methods
for the proper analysis treatment for interval and right
censored data. DOE++ also integrates seamlessly
with
Weibull++
and ALTA.
The first training seminar for
RS 588 Design of Experiments is scheduled for
June 2 - 4, 2008 in Tucson, Arizona. For more

Final Reminder for FMEA Training Failure
Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is becoming
increasingly important in many industries, because the
potential benefits include superior designs for products
and processes that can result in higher reliability,
better quality, increased safety, increased
productivity, enhanced customer satisfaction, improved
morale and significantly lower costs related to warranty
and maintenance. To learn more about the basics of FMEA,
risk assessment and best practices, register for the
upcoming ReliaSoft seminar
RS 470 FMEA/FMECA and Xfmea scheduled for March
20 - 21, 2008 in Tucson, Arizona. For more
information, please visit
