Using Maintenance
Policies
In
BlockSim 6, there are two methods for analyzing a reliability block
diagram: analytically and via simulation. The analytical method is
advantageous because you can obtain a closed-form reliability equation
and duplicate the results. However, the analytical solution does not
take into account any maintenance policies that you may have defined for
the blocks in the diagram. One of the most important benefits of
simulation is the ability to define how and when the actions are
performed. In particular, the actions of interest are the part repairs
and replacements. This can be accomplished in BlockSim 6 by defining
maintenance policies. There are three different types of maintenance
policies that can be defined for actions in BlockSim 6: corrective
maintenance, preventive maintenance and inspection.

Overview of BlockSim Containers in
Simulation
In
BlockSim 6, the container was introduced to facilitate the analysis
of standby redundancy and load sharing blocks. But how does the
container accomplish this? This article presents how containers are used
for standby and load sharing analysis during simulation.

From the Edge
|
|
In addition to the monthly Reliability HotWire, ReliaSoft also
publishes the
Reliability Edge, a printed journal that includes articles and
information related to the field of reliability engineering. Articles of
interest in the current issue include:
-
Reliability Growth Analysis and Plots - During the first
phases of a product's development, the estimate of the product's
final reliability is called the reliability goal. However, the first
prototypes produced will almost certainly contain deficiencies that
prevent the product from reaching that goal. In order to identify
and correct these deficiencies, prototypes are usually subjected to
a rigorous testing program and appropriate corrective actions are
implemented to improve the design. This structured process is called
reliability growth.
ReliaSoft is
currently working in cooperation with Dr. Larry Crow, the premier
expert in the field of reliability growth, to develop the next
generation of reliability growth analysis software, RGA 6. This
article presents a brief overview of the capabilities of RGA 6
(scheduled for release in November 2003). See
http://www.ReliaSoft.com/newsletter/2q2003/rga.htm.
