Challenges in Selecting an Integrated Enterprise-wide Reliability Solution: An IT Perspective
Guest Submission - Jassem Al-Salem of Kuwait
Oil Company
Over the past few years, reliability methods have become more and more crucial and essential tools in the oil and gas
industry. In the Middle East region specifically, their importance is becoming more evident, and more and more users are asking
for the tools in order to utilize these methods. From an IT perspective, our purpose is to support the users and assist them in
selecting the right tools, which would also meet our requirements. This article describes the challenges faced when selecting an
integrated enterprise-wide reliability system, based on my experience at Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), as part of the team assigned
to make this selection. To read more, see

Reliability Basics |
Predicting the Number of Failures for Repairable Systems
Many complex systems, such as military vehicles and
mining equipment are repairable. For repairable systems,
the number of failures at a given operation period is
one of the most important reliability metrics. Based on
the predicted number of failures, proper resources can
be allocated. ReliaSoft’s
RGA
(reliability growth analysis) software package provides
tools for repairable system modeling and prediction. In
this article, we will explain how to predict the number
of failures, with confidence bounds, for repairable
systems.To read more, see

2012 Stan
Ofsthun Award - We are honored to
announce that Dr. Larry Crow was
presented the 2012 Stan Ofsthun Award by the
Society of Reliability Engineers (SRE) at the
RAMS 2012 conference. The Stan Ofsthun Award is
given for the best paper at RAMS by an SRE
member. Candidate papers receive a blind review
in the areas of originality, significance,
accuracy, applicability and clarity. Dr. Crow's
winning paper, Demonstrating Reliability
Growth Requirements with Confidence, was one
of many submitted. This marks his fourth win of
this award during his career! Dr. Crow
(instructor and consultant for ReliaSoft) will
be teaching
RS 511 - Application of Reliability Growth
Models in Developmental Testing and Fielded
Systems, May 8 - 10, 2012 in Tucson, AZ. We
hope to post his winning paper soon! Some of
this year's papers, along with papers from years past,
