Phase Analysis with Complex Diagrams
Reliability Phase Diagrams or RPDs, can be thought of as an extension of the Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) approach. RPDs graphically describe the sequence of different operational and/or maintenance phases experienced by a system. This means that, unlike an RBD which is limited to systems with fixed configurations, RPDs can be used to represent complex systems that may change over time. The change may be in the reliability configurations (i.e. the RBD) and/or other properties, such as the availability of resources or throughput properties. In this article, we will use BlockSim to illustrate the use of reliability phase diagrams to study a complex system.

Reliability Basics
Using the Cumulative Binomial Equation for Reliability Demonstration Test Design and for Estimating the Parameters of a Data Set with Zero Failures
In this article, we will introduce the cumulative binomial equation and explore two potential applications for reliability engineering. First, we will explain how the equation can be applied for designing a Reliability Demonstration Test (RDT) that will be effective for demonstrating that a certain product has met or exceeded a given reliability at a given confidence interval. For this application, the equation can be adapted to apply to a situation in which no failures are expected to occur in the test. Next, we will discuss how that special case of the equation can also be applied for estimating the unknown parameter in a data set that does not contain any failures.

Tool Tips
  • In Weibull++, how can I use the Specify Points tool to mitigate the effect of outliers in my data set?
  • In Lambda Predict, can I include parts that are not in my selected reliability prediction standard?
