*How can I reuse my existing data in Lambda Predict 3?

Your existing data sets are valuable! Lambda Predict 3 offers several ways to import data so that you don’t have to waste time duplicating work you’ve already done. You can import from:

  • Other Lambda Predict 3 databases. You can import predictions and stored plots from an existing Lambda Predict 3 database into the current Lambda Predict 3 database. To do this, choose Project > Import Prediction(s) and browse for your source database. You can then choose one, some or all of the predictions and stored plots to be imported.

  • Lambda Predict 1 and 2 projects. You can import data from projects created in earlier versions of Lambda Predict using a simple two-part process. First, you export the data from the existing project to a Microsoft Excel® workbook. You then import the data from the Excel workbook to a Lambda Predict 3 database by choosing Project > Import from Lambda Predict 2. Browse for the Excel workbook that you created from Lambda Predict 1 or 2 and, if you are importing any Bellcore or Telcordia systems, specify the version of the standard that should be used when the systems are created in Lambda Predict 3. (Note that systems based on the China 299B and RDF 2000 reliability prediction standards cannot be imported because those standards are not currently supported in Version 3.)

Import from Lambda Predict 2 Window

  • Microsoft Excel files and delimited text files. You can import component data from a Microsoft Excel file or a delimited text file via the Import Wizard. The Import Wizard uses import mapping templates to allow you to identify the relevant information in your source file and to specify exactly how that information should be used in Lambda Predict 3. You can create an import mapping template on the fly or use one that you have previously defined. If desired, you can compare the part numbers imported from an Excel or text file with part numbers in one or more libraries, in the current project and/or in the database maintained by ReliaSoft at http://www.PartLibraries.org. Lambda Predict will search for a matching part number in the specified location(s) and any additional part data not specified in the Excel or text file will be taken from the first match found.

*In Xfmea 5/RCM++ 5, if I need to change the options in a configurable drop-down list, is there an easy way to update the records that already exist in the project?

You can use the Find and Replace window in Xfmea 5/RCM++ 5 to search for options in drop-down lists (e.g. the Action Category list for actions) or rating scales (e.g. the Initial Severity for effects). For example, suppose that you have changed one of the options in the Action Category drop-down list for a project, and you want to search for all records that have been assigned to the old category ("Quality Assurance") and replace with the new category ("QA Testing").

To open the Find and Replace window, choose Edit > Find and Replace.

In the Search area, first select the current project, and then select the analysis type (FMEA Analysis), record type (Actions) and record property (Action Category). In the Find area, select the old option (Quality Assurance) and in the Replace With area, select the new option (QA Testing). Click Find to display the results, as shown next.

To replace all matches, select the check box in the table header and then click Replace.
