In Xfmea 5/RCM++ 5, is
there a quick way to build a phrase set library based on
records that have been defined in an existing FMEA?
Yes. In Xfmea 5/RCM++ 5
if there is information in one FMEA, such as failure mode descriptions, that would be useful in other analyses, you can use a “phrase set” to make the text easily available when you perform other FMEAs. This provides several advantages, such as saving time on data entry, achieving consistency between analyses (e.g. making sure that the same failure modes are always described in the same way) and as a brainstorming tool (e.g. the FMEA team can use the phrase set to help remind them to consider certain types of failure modes).
You can export the FMEA
record descriptions from the current project either to a
new phrase set or to an existing phrase set in the
active library.
To export the FMEA
descriptions in the current project to a new phrase set,
choose System Hierarchy > Import/Export > Export to a
New FMEA Phrase Set. In the Add Phrase Set window,
do the following:
-
Enter the unique name of the phrase set in the
Name field.
-
Enter a description of the phrase set in the
Description field.
-
Click OK.
To export the FMEA
descriptions in the current project to an existing
phrase set, choose System Hierarchy > Import/Export >
Export to an Existing FMEA Phrase Set. In the Select
Phrase Set window do the following:
-
Select an existing phrase set.
-
Click OK.
Note:
This functionality adds unique descriptions only. For
example, if the existing phrase set contains a failure
cause called "Excessive condensation" and so does the
FMEA analysis that is being exported, the phrase will
not be duplicated.
Once you have created the new
phrase set or exported the descriptions to the existing
phrase set, those descriptions will be available for
selection when the phrase set is active.
In
BlockSim, is
there a way to turn off the confirmation window when I use the
Active Block drop-down list to move from the Block Properties
window of one block to another?
When you’re working in a
BlockSim diagram and editing the block properties (Block
> Edit Block Properties), you may wish to make
similar changes to multiple blocks without closing and
re-opening the Properties window for each block. To do
this, select another block from the Active Block
drop-down list at the bottom of the Block Properties
window. If you have made any changes to the properties
of the existing block, you may be asked if you wish to
save your changes before switching to the properties of
other block.

If you click Yes, the changes
will be saved before moving to the properties of the
next block. If you click No, the changes will not
be saved and the properties of the block you selected
will be displayed. If you click Cancel, the
changes will not be saved and you will remain in the
current block’s properties
If you wish to disable this message and have the
settings automatically saved when you move to another
block’s properties, choose File > User Setup,
select the Other page and
clear the Ask to apply changes when selecting
different block in Properties window check box.
You will no longer be prompted to save changes when
you select a new block from the Active Block drop-down
list. The changes to the properties
will be saved automatically.
Note:
By disabling the apply changes dialog box, you will
be saving the properties of each block at the time you
move from one block to another and this cannot be
canceled.
